HSY - Delivering water services of the highest quality
HSY produces drinking water at its water treatment plants in Helsinki (Pitkäkoski and Vanhakaupunki) and Espoo (Dämman). Municipal and industrial wastewater is treated in the Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant in Helsinki and the Suomenoja wastewater treatment plant in Espoo. HSY builds and repairs the water pipe and sewer network, whose length is approximately 7,600 km.
We are proud of our world-class drinking water and skillful employees. The treatment results of the Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant are top quality by international standards. We are able to remove 95 per cent of phosphorus and about 90 per cent of nitrogen from wastewater. Our experts have participated in the construction of the wastewater treatment plants of Saint Petersburg and Tallinn.
The cornerstones of our operations are safe drinking water, reliable water supply, smooth customer service and our strive to discharge the lowest possible amount of pollutants into the Baltic Sea.
HSY is a member of the International Water Association (IWA), an international umbrella organisation operating in the water supply and sewerage sector, and of the Finnish Water and Waste Water Works Association (FIWA). HSY Water participates in the operations of the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG).
In the near future, the water supply and sewerage services of the Helsinki metropolitan area will undergo significant changes. For example, more efforts than in the previous decades will be needed to repair the underground water pipe and sewer network.
Our goal is to renovate by 2030 all deteriorated water pipes built before 1970 in Helsinki. In the next few years, we will also begin the construction of the new wastewater treatment plant in Blominmäki in Espoo.
We serve our customers in our offices in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. For the time being, all customers are served in the offices located in their hometowns. The Espoo office also serves our customers living in Kauniainen.
