A new Sortti station to Ruskeasanta

HSY will erect a new Sortti station at Ruskeasanta in Vantaa. The HSY board approved the project plan, concerning the Sortti station, during its board meeting on 11 June 2010.

The new Sortti station will be constructed, in regard to traffic, in a favourable location close to the Tuusula road (highway 45). The access to the station will be via the Koivukylä exit. The Sortti-stations and Munkinmäki waste station receive recyclable waste, hazardous waste and unsorted solid waste, brought by cars, trailers, vans or other such kinds of light-vehicles.

The Sortti station at Ruskeasanta will primarily provide services for the inhabitants of Vantaa, but also for those from Northern Helsinki. This will particularly facilitate the congestion at the Sortti station in Kivikko. A total of 300 000 visits were reported at the Sortti stations in 2009. Most of the visits concerned the Sortti station at Kivikko.

The new Sortti station aims to pay special attention to the friendliness to the environment and the smoothness of receiving procedures, from the point of view of customers who will visit the station. For example, heavy traffic will be separated from the other customer traffic. The front of all of the station buildings will be constructed out of woodworked products that are manufactured from recycled materials. All of the buildings will have so-called green roofs (in other words, roofs covered with greenery). The heating system of the buildings will rely on terrestrial heat.

It is estimated that the construction works of the new Sortti station will be completed sometimes at the end of 2012. The final completion schedule is dependent on the town planning and the providing of the municipal engineering services in the area. The total investment costs of this project will be some 6.4 million Euros.
