Measuring stations in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

HSY continuously monitors air quality in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. There are eleven air quality measuring stations in the region. Their results are updated every hour on the HSY website.

Seven of the HSY measuring stations occupy permanent locations, while the remaining four stations move from place to place every year. In 2012 the mobile measuring stations are monitoring air quality at locations in West Harbour and Malmi in Helsinki, Hakunila in Vantaa, and Kattilalaakos in Espoo. Air quality is also monitored with the indicative passive sampling method for nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide at more than 40 points.

HSY monitors air quality also outside the Metropolitan Area in the cities of Järvenpää and Lohja in Uusimaa.

The methods used for air quality assessment by HSY are continuous and indicative passive sampling measurements, emission inventories, dispersion modelling, and bioindicator monitoring.
