Visits to HSY operation sites
We organise guided tours for groups at the Ämmässuo waste treatment centre, Sortti stations, Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant and Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant.
Waste management sites: Ämmässuo Waste Treatment Centre and Sortti Stations
School groups, resident or association groups, reporters and expert groups are welcome to visit the Ämmässuo waste treatment centre. School groups, resident or association groups and reporters are welcome to visit Sortti stations.
Ämmässuo waste treatment centre receives waste of more than a million inhabitants of the Metropolitan Area, nearly 60,000 enterprises and the public sector. The centre includes, among others, a landfill area, biowaste composting plant, gas power plant and a Sortti station that receives smaller loads.
Local residents and other operators are welcome to bring to the Sortti stations small loads of recyclable waste, hazardous waste and mixed waste. Sortti Stations are located in Kivikko and Konala in Helsinki and in Ämmässuo in Espoo. The Munkinmäki waste station serves the residents of Kirkkonummi.

Please note that
- bookings must be made at the latest two weeks prior to the visit
- visitors are responsible for organising their own transport at the Ämmässuo for example a bus
- the area at the waste treatment centre is vast and walking is prohibited for security reasons
Water management sites: Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant and Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant
Different visitor groups including school groups from upper and lower secondary schools are welcome to visit the Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant. The Viikinmäki wastewater treatment plant processes the wastewater of approximately 800,000 inhabitants and industry. The plant, mainly constructed inside a rock, is the largest wastewater treatment plant in Finland.
Water management students, other expert groups and reporters are welcome to visit the Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant. The Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant produces domestic water for the residents of the Metropolitan Area from raw water from Lake Päijänne.
